Biography of Mateusz Damiecki
Mateusz Damiecki is a Polish actor who began his career in film at the age of 10. He gained recognition when he was 16 years old, catching the attention of Russian director Alexander Proshkin. Proshkin was searching for an actor to play the lead role of Pyotr Grinyov in his film "Russian Uprising" based on Alexander Pushkin's "The Captain's Daughter". According to the director, Mateusz was the perfect fit for the role due to his appropriate age and experience in film. Another significant factor in his favor was that, like his character, he came from an aristocratic background. Proshkin described the young actor as "exceptional, captivating us all".

Mateusz enthusiastically embraced his role in the film, stating, "When I found out that the film was going to be historical, period-based, based on Pushkin's work, and filmed in Russia, I was overjoyed. I anxiously waited for a week to find out if I would really be considered for the lead role. I couldn't sit still, I read 'The Captain's Daughter' twice, and the period in which the story takes place became my favorite. Finally, the great joy came: I was approved. It was time for a very challenging but wonderful job. I learned how to fence, ride horses. Despite the harsh cold, the atmosphere on the set was warm. The whole crew was wonderful people whom it was worth meeting. I experienced a fantastic adventure that I constantly return to."
The actress who played the lead female role, Masha Mironova, was also found in Poland by the director. She turned out to be Karolina Gruszka, a student at the Warsaw Theatre Academy who later became a popular Polish actress. The film was released in 2000 and immediately caused a great sensation. Critics had mixed opinions - some criticized the weak direction, accusing Proshkin of being too influenced by American cinema, and also collectively criticized the Polish actors. However, there were others who spoke positively about the film. One review stated, "Round-faced Masha with dimples on her cheeks and serious, tanned, blue-eyed Grinyov with a mole on his nose are charming, like young cherubs. At the same time, they all take everything very seriously - they love, fight, save each other, pray to God... They are the perfect embodiment of unspoiled human norms, and that is why they are allowed to come out of the fire alive. This is the strictly moralistic, didactic outcome of the 'immoral' film about the Russian uprising" (Natalya Sirivlya). The film had its merits as well as obvious flaws. Time has placed everything in its proper perspective, and "Russian Uprising" has taken its place in the history of the emerging Russian film industry.
Some of Mateusz Damiecki's other notable works include the Polish films "WOW" (1991), "The Hunter" (1993), "Christmas Songs" (1993), "Cordian" (1994), and the television series "Mothers, Wives, Mistresses" (1995-1997). He also starred in the Polish film "Before Twilight" (2001).
