Biography of Maude Adams
Early Life and CareerMaude Adams was born as Maude Young Adams Kiskadden on November 11, 1872, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. Her parents were Azenath Anne and James Henry Kiskadden. Her mother was an actress, and Maude spent her early years traveling with her and performing in provincial theaters. At the age of five, she became a star at the San Francisco theater, playing the role of little Schneider in the production of "Fritz, Our German Cousin". Her calm yet determined and confident nature made her popular with the audience and unofficially known as "Modi".

Success in Theater
Maude Adams reached the peak of her career by starring in "Peter Pan", capturing the hearts of a large audience and becoming the most successful and highly paid person of her time. At the height of her popularity, she earned an annual income of over a million dollars. Fans often simply referred to their favorite actress as "Modi". She was known for her noble and attention-worthy demeanor in any situation.
Generosity and Kindness
Maude Adams was not afraid to openly help young actors and actresses who aspired to fame. As a historical fact, she sometimes raised the salaries of her fellow actors out of her own pocket and gave small gifts to stage workers. Once, while on a tour, she learned that the theater owner had doubled the ticket prices, knowing that they would sell out anyway due to her name. Adams made the audacious owner reimburse the difference, threatening not to go on stage that evening.
Philanthropy and Legacy
In 1922, Maude Adams donated her estate in Lake Ronkonkoma to the Sisters of St. Regis, allowing them to use it at their discretion. She died at the age of 80 in her summer home, Cadem Hill, in Terrensville, New York, and was laid to rest in the Sisters of the Holy Supper Cemetery in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York.
Influence on Pop Culture
The character Elise McKenna from Richard Matheson's 1975 novel "Bid Time Return" and its 1980 film adaptation "Somewhere in Time", portrayed by actress Jane Seymour, was actually based on Maude Adams' persona.
