Early Life and Football Career
Maxim Bilyi was born in Novomoskovsk, Ukraine, and embarked on his football journey at the tender age of six. Four years later, he relocated to Dnipropetrovsk, where he honed his skills at the ISTA football school. In 2006, he joined the Metalist reserve team, followed by a brief stint in Latvia. However, an offer from Kharkiv FC brought him back to Ukraine.
Kharkiv and Zorya Luhansk
Bilyi made his professional debut for Kharkiv on July 18, 2007. After representing Metalist Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhya Metallurg, he joined Zorya Luhansk in 2010. Over the years, he made 29 appearances for various Ukraine youth teams, scoring five goals. Sadly, he never received an opportunity to play for the senior national team.
Tragic Illness and Passing
On September 11, 2011, during a match against FC Dnipro, Bilyi reportedly suffered a head injury. However, this was later refuted by Zorya Luhansk's general director, who revealed that Bilyi's illness was a brain tumor, unrelated to the injury.
Despite extensive treatment in Israel and Germany, the brave midfielder's two-year battle with the disease came to an end on September 14, 2013, in his hometown of Novomoskovsk. As a tribute to his memory, Zorya Luhansk retired the number 33 in his honor on September 28, 2013, during a match against Volyn Lutsk.
