Early Life and Career

Medeui Sarsekeyev (1934-present) is a renowned Kazakh writer, playwright, and public figure. Born in Kainar, East Kazakhstan, he graduated from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute in 1958 and worked as an engineer in heavy industry. In 1958-1965, he contributed to newspapers and joined the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan in 1962. From 1965, he served as Executive Secretary of the Semipalatinsk Regional Branch of the Union for over three decades.

Debut in Science Fiction

Sarsekeyev made his literary debut in 1955 as a science fiction writer. His early works in this genre, such as "Neobyknovenny Luch" (1959) and "Ten' Nevidimki" (1960), stood out in Kazakh literature and earned him the title of "pioneer of Kazakh science fiction." His novel "Zhetinshi Tolkyn" (1964) was widely acclaimed, reaching a print run of 100,000 copies.

Production Literature and Documentary Prose

In addition to his science fiction works, Sarsekeyev also explored production literature and documentary prose. His novels "Zharylys" (1979) and "Kembe" (1980s-1990s) depicted the lives of industrial workers and were translated into Russian. "Zharylys," based on real events, was published in prominent Soviet literary journals and later as a standalone book.

Playwright and Dramatist

Sarsekeyev also wrote plays and dramas. His seven plays were published in a single volume in 2013. Notable works include "Shyngys Hikayasy," "Zharylys," and "Zaghdy Neke." His play "Chingiska Byl" was staged at the Semipalatinsk Russian Drama Theater, while the adaptation of "Zharylys" was performed by the Republican Russian Drama Theater named after M. Yu. Lermontov.
