Biography of Melanie Klein
Melanie Klein (30.03.1882, Vienna - 22.09.1960, London) was an Austrian-British psychoanalyst. She received an incomplete education in art history in Vienna. In Budapest, she met S. Ferenczi. From 1921 to 1926, she studied under K. Abraham in Berlin.
Move to London and Creation of Her Own School
With the support of E. Jones, Klein moved to London, where she established her own school of psychoanalysis. She focused on the problems of child psychoanalysis, emphasizing the social and cognitive aspects of the mother-child relationship rather than the sexual aspect. According to her beliefs, the Superego is formed at the age of two, with aggressive needs predominating over sexual ones. She conducted psychoanalysis of children through play therapy. After 1930, she also conducted research on adults.
Notable Works
Klein's notable works include "Zur Fruhanalyse" (1923), "The Development of a Child" (1925), "The Psychoanalysis of Children" (1932), "Envy and Gratitude" (1956), and "Narrative of a Child Analysis" (1958).
Literature
Klein's contributions to the field of psychoanalysis have been discussed in the book "The Origins of Freudism and the Evolution of Psychoanalysis" by C. B. Clement, P. Bruno, and L. Sav.
