Melbourne Inman

Melbourne Inman was an English professional English billiards and snooker player. He was born in 1878 into a family of skilled billiards players, with his father, two brothers, and three uncles all being able to compile breaks of over 100. Melbourne himself became one of the most successful, popular, and well-known billiards players of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

World Championships

Inman won the World Billiards Championship five times, in 1908, 1909, 1911, 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1919. He also finished runner-up in the tournament in 1910 and 1911.

Snooker Debut

In November 1926, Inman played in the opening match of the first professional World Snooker Championship.

Playing Style

Melbourne Inman was known for his slow, tactical style of play, which proved to be highly effective at the time. He was one of the most successful players of his era in terms of financial earnings.
