Biography of Melinda Chan
Melinda Chan, a Chinese photographer, specializes primarily in photographs of places that her tireless wanderlust takes her. Her creative streak awakened in her childhood - during school years, she actively drew and wrote stories. Sometimes Chan was inspired by real existing objects, but more often reality in her creations was significantly distorted, passing through the prism of her wild imagination. Later, Chan temporarily set aside her creativity to focus on her studies; after school, Melinda decided to focus on her career. She forgot about her love for art for a long time; once beloved brushes and paints quietly collected dust on a distant shelf in the attic. Strangely enough, Chan returned to the world of art thanks to an assignment she received during a business management course. Melinda was tasked with studying existing management theories and preparing a report on how these theories work in real life. For her report, Chan chose an extraordinarily unusual form - she painted a picture in a cubist style, converted it into a digital format, and turned it into a puzzle using a special online resource. In this way, Melinda wanted to demonstrate that the applicability of certain theories depends primarily on the specific situation - and only by carefully studying the existing pieces of the overall picture can one find the perfect solution for the missing fragment.

Currently, Melinda Chan specializes primarily in photographs of places that her tireless wanderlust takes her. She travels primarily in China - this vast country is home to many natural wonders. In July 2011, Chan took a series of photographs of the legendary "Colored Rocks" in Zhangye Danxia. These rocks were painted with the most eccentric color by the most unique artist in the world - nature itself. Scientists claim that these rocks were once deep underwater; over the years, a layer of clay deposited on the surface of the future rocks. Later, the water receded, and the remaining clay oxidized in the air, acquiring a rather unusual shade. Over the years, wind, water, and temperature erosion created quite extraordinary landscapes from the clay; these picturesque rocks are immensely popular among tourists and have even been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In Melinda Chan's photographs, the Zhangye Danxia mountains are captured in all their untouched beauty and wilderness; rare human creations only highlight the natural power of this landscape.
