Miguel Ángel Borja: A Colombian Forward on the Rise
Early CareerMiguel Ángel Borja began his professional football career with Deportivo Cali in 2011, but played only one match for the club. In search of more playing opportunities, he moved to Cúcuta Deportivo later that year. In 2012, he joined La Equidad, followed by a short stint with Atlético Nacional. He was then loaned to Italian club Livorno in 2013, making eight appearances in Serie A.
Argentine Success and Copa Sudamericana Triumph
In 2014, Borja played for Olimpo in Argentina before returning to Colombia to join Santa Fe in 2015. With Santa Fe, he won the Copa Sudamericana, a major continental tournament. He then spent the first half of 2016 with Cortuluá before signing for Atlético Nacional in July.
Shining for Atlético Nacional and Libertadores Glory
Atlético Nacional, weakened by the departure of several key players, needed reinforcements. Borja made an immediate impact, scoring a brace in his debut against São Paulo in the Copa Libertadores semifinals. He continued his scoring form, netting another two goals in the second leg, helping Atlético Nacional reach the final. In the final, he scored the only goal against Independiente del Valle, securing the club's second Copa Libertadores title.
International Recognition
In 2013, Borja was called up to the Colombian Under-20 team for the South American Youth Championship. He scored a hat-trick in his second match against Bolivia, earning him recognition as a prolific goalscorer.
