Early Life and Military Career
Mikhail Nikiforovich Belyanchik was born in 1905 in the Kharkov Governorate, Russian Empire. At the age of 15, he joined the Red Army during the Russian Civil War. According to some accounts, he changed his last name to Belyanchik and stated a different birthplace upon his brother's advice.
After the war, Belyanchik pursued a military education and served in the communications branch. He became a member of the Communist Party in 1928.
World War II and Commendations
During World War II, Belyanchik played a pivotal role as Chief of Communications for the 1st Guards Army. He participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and later served on the 4th Ukrainian Front. General S. P. Ivanov praised Belyanchik's resourcefulness and initiative in his memoirs.
Belyanchik earned twelve mentions in the Supreme Commander's Orders of Gratitude for his valiant service.
Post-War Career and Anti-Stalinist Activities
After the war, Belyanchik became a Major General in the Signal Corps and attended the Higher Academic Courses at the Budyonny Military Academy of Communications. However, his career took a dramatic turn when he was arrested in 1947 for anti-Stalinist activities.
Arrest and Execution
Belyanchik was accused of making anti-Soviet inscriptions and distributing propaganda. The Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR sentenced him to death for "counter-revolutionary agitation and propaganda of terror." Belyanchik was executed on August 26, 1950.
Rehabilitation and Legacy
In 1991, Belyanchik was posthumously rehabilitated. He is remembered for his military accomplishments and his courage in expressing his dissent against Stalin's regime.
