Early Life and Career

Mikhail Grigorievich Lobytov was born into a peasant family in the village of Sloboda in the former Novgorod Governorate. At the age of 13, he began working as a laborer at the Sholsky Timber Mill. He later became a salesman and then manager of a workers' cooperative store.

Soviet Service

In 1930, Lobytov began his career in Soviet organizations in the Sholsky District, which was initially part of Leningrad Oblast and later became part of Vologda Oblast. He held various positions, including inspector and head of the finance department of the district executive committee, head of the organization department, secretary, and eventually chairman of the executive committee.

In 1932, Lobytov joined the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and enrolled in the Leningrad Regional Party School in 1947. Upon graduating, he was elected Chairman of the Vologda District Executive Committee in 1949, a position he held for approximately five years.

Transformation of Kolkhoz "Rodina"

After World War II, agriculture in Vologda Oblast was struggling. Lobytov, a dedicated communist, made a bold decision to transform a struggling collective farm, Kolkhoz "Voroshilov," into a model enterprise. He was given the leadership of the farm in the early 1950s.

Under Lobytov's leadership, the kolkhoz embarked on a comprehensive program of improvements. They built new cowsheds, mechanized livestock operations, provided subsidized hot meals for field workers, cleared land, improved soil fertility, and implemented advanced agricultural practices.

Achievements and Recognition

Lobytov's efforts bore fruit. By the 1950s, Kolkhoz "Rodina" had become a leading enterprise. Potato yields exceeded 200 centners per hectare, and flax fiber production reached 9 centners. The farm's gross and net incomes soared to nearly 4 million and 1.5 million rubles, respectively.

In 1967, Kolkhoz "Rodina" implemented internal financial accounting. The farm also developed a successful pedigree cattle breeding program, earning it the status of a state pedigree breeding enterprise by the Ministry of Agriculture. Additionally, the kolkhoz established a seed production unit, supplying over 1,000 tons of seeds to local farms.

Social Development and Legacy

As the farm prospered, Lobytov focused on the social well-being of his members. He oversaw the construction of modern housing, a school, a daycare center, a community center, and a branch of the regional art gallery. The farm also became known for its choir and its successful sports teams.

Lobytov retired in 1987 at the age of 80. His innovative leadership and dedication transformed Kolkhoz "Rodina" into a thriving enterprise, leaving a lasting legacy in Vologda Oblast.

Honors and Awards

Mikhail Grigorievich Lobytov was bestowed with numerous honors and awards for his contributions to agriculture. He was twice awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor (1966 and 1985), as well as three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Patriotic War (II degree), and several medals.
