Biography of Mohammed Al-Fayed
Early Life and CareerMohammed Abdel Moniem Al-Fayed was an Egyptian businessman, born in Bakos, Alexandria, Egypt. He was the eldest son of an Egyptian teacher. Al-Fayed started his first business in school, selling homemade lemonade. He later established an expedition agency in Egypt with his brothers, which eventually expanded to London. He became a prominent figure in the business world and was known for his various ventures.
Business Ventures
Al-Fayed was the owner of the English Premier League team 'Fulham', the 'Ritz Paris' hotel, and the 'Harrods' department store chain until it was sold to 'Qatari Holdings' in 2010 for approximately 1.5 billion pounds. Throughout his career, he also served as a financial advisor to the Sultan of Brunei and was involved in various construction and restoration projects, including the renovation of the 'Ritz' hotel and the 'Windsor' villa in Boulogne, France.
Personal Life
In 1985, Al-Fayed married Finnish socialite and former model, Heini Wathén. They had four children together and two grandchildren. Unfortunately, their son Dodi Al-Fayed, from Al-Fayed's previous marriage, tragically died in a car accident in Paris along with Princess Diana in 1997.
Philanthropy and Public Life
In 1987, Al-Fayed founded the Mohammed Al-Fayed Charitable Foundation, which aimed to support children living in poverty or with disabilities. He also revived the humor magazine 'Punch' in 1996, but it was closed again in 2002. Throughout his life, Al-Fayed faced obstacles in obtaining British citizenship, despite his contributions to the country's business sector.

In 2003, Al-Fayed moved from Surrey, UK, to Switzerland, but returned to the UK in 2005, stating that he considered it his home. He spent some time in Monaco as well. Al-Fayed's business ventures and personal life made him a well-known figure in both the business and public spheres. His legacy includes his successful business ventures, his philanthropic work, and his involvement in high-profile controversies.
