Iranian Military Commander Brigadier General Zolqadr
Early CareerBrigadier General Hossein Dehghan Zolqadr is an influential Iranian military commander who currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Law Enforcement. Prior to this appointment in April 2006, he held the position of Deputy Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Controversial Moscow Visit
In April 2007, despite being subject to UN sanctions prohibiting him from international travel, General Zolqadr visited Moscow on an official trip. Notably, he faced no obstacles during his journey and was received warmly by Russian authorities.
Zolqadr dismissed the UN sanctions as ineffective, stating that he had visited Russia without encountering any problems. However, he neglected to mention that Russia had fulfilled all necessary formalities with the UN regarding his visit. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement clarifying the situation, confirming that it had duly notified the UN about General Zolqadr's trip.
According to Iranian state media, Zolqadr spent six days in Russia discussing cooperation with Russian officials on border control and disaster management.
Family Ties
General Zolqadr is related to General Mohammad-Ali Jafari, the former Commander of the IRGC. This familial connection has likely played a role in his rise within the Iranian military hierarchy.
