Biography of Moran Mazor
Moran Mazor is a young Israeli singer and representative of Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. She was born on May 17, 1991, in Holon, Israel. Moran's musical career began at a very young age, as she loved to sing and performed her songs in public without any hesitation. Her parents, Nana and Rafi Mazor, who had moved from Georgia to Israel in the 1960s, encouraged her passion for music. Despite settling in Israel and speaking Hebrew, Moran's parents believed that it was important for their children to remember their roots, so Moran learned Georgian from an early age and was also familiar with Georgian traditions and customs.
At the age of 4, Moran started learning to play the piano, and at 12, she began singing in a city choir, where she gained her basic vocal skills. After completing school, she voluntarily joined the Israeli Air Force and, while in the military, started playing in a band and composing her own songs. It seemed unlikely for her to break into the music scene, even in small Israel. However, during that time, a television channel announced auditions for a new music show called "Eyal Golan is Calling You." Without hesitation, Moran signed up and started preparing her performance.
The show aired, and the judges quickly noticed Moran's amazing voice and her remarkable stage presence. She remained a frontrunner throughout the competition and eventually became the winner of the first season. Interestingly, Moran appeared in different glasses for each performance, earning herself the nickname "The Librarian." However, she didn't mind the attention and admitted in an interview that she enjoyed being noticed and wanted to be attractive. She said, "I don't want to get rid of my glasses because it's fun."
As the winner of the competition, Moran received a recording contract, and the following day, she began working on her solo career. Her debut single, "I'm Here," became a hit on radio stations across the country and topped several music charts. Moran's other songs also gained popularity among both young and adult listeners, who were captivated by her seriousness and her voice.
Moran had the opportunity to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with her song "Rak Bishvilo" (Only for Him). She admitted to being nervous but believed that she and her small team would succeed. Unfortunately, the contest took place in Malmo, Sweden, a city known for its antisemitic sentiments. Even during the competition, the locals couldn't contain themselves and repeatedly questioned Moran and her colleagues about their origins. Furthermore, a city councilor openly stated that for the locals to treat Jews well, Israel should give land to Palestine.
Despite all the tensions in the town, Moran Mazor was eliminated from the competition in the semifinals. However, journalists continue to question the disappearance of Swedish political correctness and whether it is possible to turn a youth talent contest into a political confrontation.
