Biography of Nadezhda Trojan
Nadezhda Viktorovna Trojan, a Soviet scout and nurse of the partisan detachment "Burya," was born on October 24, 1921, in the city of Verkhnedvinsk, Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus. Since 1941, she participated in the underground activities of the Smolevichi organization in Minsk Oblast. The members of this organization gathered intelligence about the enemy, recruited partisans, provided assistance to their families, and wrote and distributed leaflets.

In July 1942, Nadezhda became a liaison officer, scout, and nurse for the partisan units "Stalin's Five," "Burya" (led by M. Skoromnik), and the brigade "Uncle Kolya" (led by Hero of the Soviet Union P.G. Lopatin) in Minsk Oblast. She participated in operations to destroy bridges, attack enemy convoys, and engage in combat with punishers.

One of her most famous and significant feats was her involvement, along with E.G. Mazanik and M.B. Osipova, in the operation to eliminate the fascist Gauleiter of Belarus, Wilhelm von Cube. The women placed a mine under his bed. This story was later depicted in the film "The Clock Stopped at Midnight" in 1958. During Cube's two-year rule, he exterminated over 400,000 Belarusians, Russians, and Jews in Belarus. He was not only a committed Nazi but also known as a true sadist. "I want my name alone to strike fear into the hearts of Russians and Belarusians, to freeze their brains when they hear 'Wilhelm Cube.' I ask you, loyal subjects of the great Fuhrer, to help me achieve this," Cube addressed his soldiers.

After Hitler declared women as his personal enemies, Nadezhda's mother, her entire family, Elena Mazanik, and Maria Osipova were evacuated by plane to Moscow. They couldn't stay in the Belarusian forests as they were targeted for revenge by the surviving Nazis after the war.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on October 29, 1943, Nadezhda Viktorovna was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for her heroic feat in carrying out a combat mission behind enemy lines. She was presented with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (No. 1209). In 1947, Nadezhda Trojan graduated from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute. She worked as the director of the Scientific Research Institute of Sanitary Education of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, an associate professor at the Department of Surgery of the 1st Moscow Medical Institute, and the Vice-Rector of the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after Sechenov.
Nadezhda Trojan was a member of the Presidium of the Soviet War Veterans Committee, a member of the Committee for the Defense of Peace, the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Union of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of the USSR, a member of the Council of the International Federation of Resistance Fighters, and the co-chair of the International Organization for Sanitary Education.
She lived in Moscow and passed away on September 7, 2011. She was buried in the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. In 2012, a secondary school with advanced English language studies in Moscow was named after her (School No. 1288). A memorial plaque was also installed on the building of the I.M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University in Moscow.
