Biography of Neri Karra
Neri Karra is a fashion entrepreneur, academic director, and author. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge and is the head of a luxury leather accessories brand called 'Neri Karra'. Her passion for leather goods and design began at a young age when she used to observe her grandfather crafting leather saddles in his workshop and her grandmother, a dressmaker, sewing exquisite dresses.

Born in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria, Neri's family had to relocate to Istanbul in 1989 due to the forced emigration of Bulgarians of Turkish descent. After obtaining a degree in Business Management in the United States and receiving three gold medals for academic excellence, Neri returned to Istanbul and co-founded her label 'Neri Karra' with her father.
Establishing the Brand
Initially, the business started on a small scale. In 1999, at the age of 22, Neri began producing leather cases for mobile phones. Limited resources led her to focus on one or two signature models instead of a full product line. This approach allowed the 'Neri Karra' brand to gain recognition among numerous competitors. As she expanded internationally, Neri started exporting her products to Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia.
Today, the 'Neri Karra' brand offers a wide range of leather goods and can be found in over 300 stores across 14 countries. Over the past decade, Neri has received numerous awards and accolades from various organizations, including 'DSD Foreign Trade', which recognized her as one of the top exporters in Turkey. In 2010, she was a finalist for the 'Best Young Entrepreneur' title at the Luxuria Awards.
Academic Achievements
Neri Karra received a Trust Overseas Scholarship while studying at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral dissertation was nominated for the prestigious 'William H Newman Award' and became a finalist among the best papers in the field of international management at the Academy of Management. In 2006, Neri was invited as a lecturer and research associate at the London College of Fashion, where she taught international marketing. She also led the 'Designing Demand' program in 2008-2009, a national support initiative for British entrepreneurs at the innovation center created by Imperial College and the Royal College of Art. In 2010, she was responsible for the 'Luxury Brand Management' program at Regent's College.
Neri has published several works in leading management journals, and her book 'Beyond Borders' was released in 2008.
