Campbell earned the moniker after starring in three "Halloween" films, classic thrillers that solidified her status in the horror genre. However, in 1996, Curtis found a formidable rival in Campbell. Despite the acclaim, Campbell's reaction to the label was lukewarm. One reason was that she had a run-in with the former "Queen" on the set of her new project, "Drowning Mona." In an interview, Campbell admitted, "I really don't like being called 'Scream Queen.' It's not that I fear Curtis' revenge! It's just that I don't want to be typecast and lose my artistic freedom."

Despite her initial vow to avoid television, she made her acting debut in the Canadian series "Catwalk." After two seasons, she left the soap opera despite having no other offers. Months of searching later, she landed another television role in the American series "Party of Five." To her dismay, her contract prohibited her from leaving without paying a hefty penalty. "I was a prisoner in a gilded cage for six years. The show brought me fame and fortune, but I can't tell you how many great film projects I had to pass up because they conflicted with my schedule," Campbell lamented.
Personal Life
Campbell's passion for acting ultimately took a toll on her personal life. She met Jeff Colt at age 15 while working at a theater concession stand in Toronto. Colt aspired to act and landed small television and film roles. As Campbell's career skyrocketed, Colt became known as "Mr. Campbell" and faced the relentless advances of his wife's admirers. The pressures eventually led to Colt filing for divorce after Campbell accidentally addressed him by her co-star's name.

Campbell was deeply affected by her parents' divorce. The experience led her to vow as a child that she would never marry. As she grew older, she realized that her father's subsequent remarriage and divorce had further cemented her belief.
