Starting in 1980, Nic worked in Woodstock, New York, at the radio station WDST, serving as the news and music director. He later described the station as a "commercial radio converted into a bastion of new music, always ahead of the rest." However, with a change in leadership in 1998, Harcourt was forced to resign.

As a popular DJ, he easily found a place at KCRW radio station, where he was offered to work on the daily morning show called "Morning Becomes Eclectic," which became one of the station's most popular programs. In an interview, Nic admitted that this position was significantly different from his previous one, where he oversaw an approved playlist. He realized that he had found the best job in radio, having the opportunity to not only play any music on air but also constantly experiment.

Gradually, the format of the show began to change as many of the recordings played on air were recorded in a separate studio in Los Angeles. This innovation significantly increased the show's ratings, and soon a weekly show called "Sounds Eclectic" was created, which showcased the newest and most interesting music. It was while being at the helm of the show that Nic began to broadcast songs by young bands that had not yet gained recognition from critics and audiences.

According to critics, he is one of the reasons behind the incredible popularity of the band "Coldplay" and the Scandinavian post-rock group "Sigur Rós". In 2008, Nic left his position as the host of the show and began working as a music director on the radio station. In his free time, he started creating shows and films but eventually realized that his calling was radio.

In 2011, he began hosting the show "Connections with Nic Harcourt" on KCSN radio station and soon after, by the station's decision, started appearing on the daily show "Mornings Are Electric". In 2005, the DJ released a book called "Music Lust: Recommended Listening for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason," in which he detailed which music is best suited for different moods.

Throughout his radio career, Nic has also worked as a music consultant, helping select the right music for various shows, films, and broadcasts.
