Nicolas Gestin, a distinguished French athlete, has made an indelible mark on the sport of canoe slalom. His journey to the pinnacle of canoeing began with his debut at the junior level in 2016, where he showcased his exceptional skills by securing a commendable 5th place finish in the individual event at the Junior World Championships in Krakow. He further enhanced his reputation by contributing to the French team's bronze medal triumph in the team C1 competition.
Early Career and Setbacks
Despite his promising start, Gestin faced a setback when he sustained a dislocated shoulder in August 2016. This unfortunately prevented him from competing in the European Junior Championships and hindered his selection for the national team in 2017. However, Gestin's unwavering determination propelled him forward, and he made a remarkable comeback in his final junior season.
International Success
In 2018, Gestin achieved a series of impressive accolades. He captured two silver medals at the Junior European Championships in both the C1 individual and team events. His triumph continued at the Junior World Championships in Ivrea, where he claimed gold in the team C1 competition and bronze in the individual C1 event.
Transition to Senior Competition
Gestin's transition to the senior level was equally impressive, as he showcased his talents in the final two rounds of the 2018 World Cup, reaching the finals in both races and securing 8th and 10th place finishes in Tacen and La Seu, respectively. Under the guidance of renowned coach Arnaud Brogniart, Gestin's skills flourished. He narrowly missed Olympic qualification in 2020, finishing 6th in the selection event. Undeterred, he continued to excel, finishing 5th at the 2021 European Championships in Ivrea.
Gestin's achievements culminated in three medals at the World Championships: two golds in the team C1 event (2021 and 2023) and a silver in the C1 individual event (2023). He also claimed 4th place in the 2021 World Championships C1 event.
