In 1951, he received his first official credit as a camera operator on the crime drama film "Calling Bulldog Drummond."

Roeg worked as a visual effects assistant on Roger Corman's "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962) and "The Masque of the Red Death" (1964). In 1970, he made his directorial debut alongside Donald Cammell on the crime drama "Performance."
