British Schoolgirl with the Highest IQ
At the age of 12, Nicole Barr scored 162 on an IQ test, surpassing the scores of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking. Raised in a nomadic family, Nicole had been finding errors in books and magazines from a young age. Scoring better than 98% of the population on a standardized IQ test, she earned the right to become a member of Mensa, an organization for people with high intelligence quotients. Nicole's mother, Dolly Bakeland, proudly said, "Nicole is one of those children who works hard. She stays after school for homework club and never misses a day." She added, "My daughter is a happy, cheerful girl who always asks for extra homework. She has decided to finish school, go to college, and university to become a pediatrician."
A Standout Student
Nicole, now in seventh grade at Burnt Mill School in Harlow, Essex, loves reading, singing, and participating in school plays. However, she envisions herself as a doctor in the future. She said, "Maybe I'll be able to invent a new medicine." Her father, James, a drain cleaner and road repairman, stated that his daughter's remarkable achievements have become a major topic of conversation in their nomadic village, and people continue to share her story on Facebook. He said, "When people like us feature in the news, it's just great, even for a change. My daughter's example shows that it doesn't matter where you come from. Anyone can have a brilliant academic mind." Even in primary school, Nicole, who was not yet ten years old, could solve complex math problems and was noticeably more advanced than her peers.
A Child Prodigy
James added, "My daughter has always loved numbers and puzzles. She has always excelled in counting and was several years ahead of her classmates in development. Nicole loved playing with her Nintendo DS gaming console at the age of two. Her ability to handle technology amazed our relatives and friends." Helen Mills, the leader of a group organized by the British Medical Association to support gifted students, including those from Burnt Mill School, said, "Nicole is an outstanding student. She is incredibly hardworking. In her first year of working with our group, she participated in numerous events." Mills mentioned that Nicole took part in a writing competition, participated in the national mathematics Olympiad, and even set up a tent camp. She said, "Nicole never stops acting in accordance with our unofficial motto: hard work pays off."
The Mensa Membership
There are around 110,000 members of Mensa worldwide, with 20,000 from the British Isles alone. Only eight percent of the total members are under the age of sixteen. Of the members, 65% are males and boys, while 35% are females and girls. Mensa representatives added that children with exceptional abilities exhibit astonishing memory, deep interest or knowledge in a specific subject, and a desire to communicate with a more mature company. Anne Clarkson, one of the representatives, stated, "With her IQ test score, Nicole easily entered the top one percent of the smartest population on the planet."
A Proud Father's Perspective
James Barr concluded, "My daughter often thinks outside the box. When many adults continue to struggle with a problem without changing their approach, Nicole can look at things from a different angle." He added, "I have always been proud of my daughter, and the IQ test hasn't changed that." It is worth noting, however, that IQ tests have been criticized by scientists. These tests primarily reveal a person's ability to think logically, reason, and analyze.
