Early Life and Education

Élisabeth Brise was born in France and studied private law at the University of Bordeaux IV, graduating in 1970.

Political Career

Brise began her political career by joining the Socialist Party in 1980. From 1983 to 1989, she served as a regional councilor for Île-de-France. She worked as an aide to Jean-Pierre Chevènement and later Ségolène Royal.

National Assembly and Senate

Brise was elected to the National Assembly of France in 1997, representing the 6th constituency of Seine-et-Marne. She held this position until 2002. In 2004, she was elected to the French Senate, again representing Seine-et-Marne.

Ministerial Positions

In 2012, Brise was appointed Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy in the first government of Jean-Marc Ayrault. In the second Ayrault government, she became Minister of Foreign Trade. She served in these roles until 2014.

Post-Government Career

After leaving the government, Brise returned to the Senate in 2014. She criticized the Socialist Party's "left primaries" in 2017 and endorsed Emmanuel Macron for president.

Death

Tragically, Brise passed away on August 6, 2017, at the age of 72, after falling down a staircase while on vacation.
