Biography of Nino Machaidze

Nino Machaidze is an opera singer (soprano) who has achieved great success in her career. Born in Georgia, she began attending piano lessons at the age of eight. Later, she received vocal training at the Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatoire.

At the age of 17, Nino won her first vocal prize in her homeland. From 2000 to 2005, she performed various roles at the Georgian National Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Paliashvili, including Zerlina in "Don Giovanni," Norina in "Don Pasquale," and Gilda in "Rigoletto."

In 2005, Nino competed against 400 other contenders and was immediately accepted into the Academy of Young Vocalists at La Scala Theatre in Milan. She made her successful debut as Naiad in Richard Strauss' "Ariadne auf Naxos" in 2006, conducted by Jeffrey Tate, and received offers for other roles shortly after.

Following her brilliant debut as Silvia in Mozart's "Ascanio in Alba" at La Scala in February 2007 and as Marie in Gaetano Donizetti's "La Fille du Régiment" at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in May of the same year, Nino celebrated the beginning of her international career. In March 2008, she performed the roles of Lauretta in Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" and Musetta in "La Bohème" at La Scala.

In the summer of 2008, Nino Machaidze appeared alongside Rolando Villazón as Juliette in Charles Gounod's "Roméo et Juliette" at the Salzburg Festival. This unexpected casting choice generated high expectations since the Austrian audience had become accustomed to the "star couple" of Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón in the production. However, Nino's performance as Juliette was met with great acclaim, and her partnership with Villazón proved to be successful.

Currently, Nino resides in Milan and is fluent in Italian. She was also awarded the first prize at the Leyla Gencer International Vocal Competition in Istanbul in 2007. Nino Machaidze continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her powerful soprano voice and remarkable stage presence.
