Obie Trice Biography
Obie Trice, a hip-hop artist, rose to fame quickly in the rap world thanks to Eminem, who signed him to Shady Records and produced his debut album. Born on the west side of Detroit, in Schoolcraft and Greenfield area, Trice started his rap career humbly and went unnoticed. He dropped out of school in the early 90s and struggled to make ends meet, which wasn't easy on the cold and abandoned streets of Detroit. The turning point in his life came with the birth of his daughter Kobie in 1998. Watching Eminem's success, Obie believed that he too could make his mark, despite living in the stubborn city of Detroit.
Early Career
Trice started rapping at a young age. His mother bought him a karaoke machine, which he used to practice his flow, often rapping over beats from RUN D.M.C. and Big Daddy. Honing his skills over the years and spreading his demos throughout the streets of Detroit, Obie performed on the local underground scene. His recordings caught Eminem's attention, who took Obie under his wing, becoming his launching point. We first heard Obie on the album D12 Devil's Night ("Obie Trice [Intro]," 2001), then alongside Eminem on The Eminem Show ("Drips," 2002), and on the soundtrack for 8 Mile ("Love Me," "Adrenaline Rush," 2002 and "Rap Name").
Career Breakthrough
The studio where the musician records his new material is usually a closed space for outsiders. But has Eminem ever followed conventional rules? As recently revealed, the rapper decided to invite three of his fans to witness the recording of his new album. The only condition to enter the "artist's workshop" was to purchase Obie Trice's album. In the first edition of the CD (500,000 copies), there will be three lucky "Golden Tickets" giving the right to visit the studio. Moreover, lucky winners from other cities will even have their trip to Detroit paid for.
"While working on Obie's album, we tried to present it in a special way, to create a truly vibrant promotional campaign," Eminem said. "I hope that this idea will prevent the album from going unnoticed." "Usually, all marketing approaches are painfully banal," Obie Trice added. "Buy the album and get a free DVD, a poster... it's boring! Our idea is fresh and original." Finally, in late 2003, his debut album CHEERS was released. The first single on the album was the track "The Step Up" featuring Nate Dogg.
