Israeli Paleolithic Archaeologist
An Israeli archaeologist, specializing in the study of the Paleolithic era. He was a professor of prehistoric archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he had also been a student and graduate in the 1960s. In 1988, he moved to the United States, where he became a professor of prehistoric archaeology at Harvard University and curator of Paleolithic archaeology at the Peabody Museum.
Excavations and Discoveries
He participated in numerous excavations of sites in the Levant, including the Kebara Cave, the early Neolithic settlement of Netiv Hagdud, and Paleolithic and Neolithic sites in China and Georgia. His work contributed significantly to understanding human prehistory and the origins and evolution of modern humans.
