Oleg Kurdyukov: A Lithuanian Journalist and Publicist
Early Life and EducationOleg Kurdyukov, a Lithuanian journalist and publicist, was born in Vilnius. He studied journalism at the Lviv Higher Military-Political School (now Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy) from 1983 to 1987.
Military Career and Transition to Journalism
After graduating, Kurdyukov served as a correspondent for the newspaper "Krasnyi Boyets" in the Ural Military District. In 1989, he resigned from the Soviet Army and returned to Lithuania. He worked as a correspondent for the Lithuanian Sąjūdis newspaper "Sąjūdis" and as a freelance correspondent for Radio Liberty and the BBC, and published the monthly "Radiodigest."
National Television of Lithuania
In 1993, Kurdyukov joined the National Television of Lithuania. He became the editor and host of the daily news program "Vakaro Žinios" (Evening News), which was closed in 2008. Concurrently, he hosted the cultural and public affairs program "Russkaya Ulitsa" (Russian Street) since 1999. This program focuses on the daily life of the Russian community in Lithuania, Lithuanian-Russian relations, and historical ties between the two countries.
Literary Accomplishments
Kurdyukov's articles and essays have been published in notable publications such as "Krasnogruda" (Poland), "Harper's Bazaar," "Ieva," and "Cosmopolitan." He is a member of the Union of Journalists of Lithuania and the Lithuanian College of Ethnic Journalism ("ETNIKA"). Kurdyukov was a full member of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio.
Awards and Honors
Kurdyukov's work has received numerous awards and recognition. He won the Grand Prix at the International Festival of Television and Radio Programs in the Russian Language "Efirnaya Shkatulka" (Prague, 2010) and a diploma from the International Academy of Television and Radio "For Contribution to Television Journalism." He also received diplomas at international television and radio festivals in Düsseldorf (2008), Eilat (2009), Tallinn (2011), and Budapest (2012). In 2011, he was nominated as Best TV Presenter of the Year.
Kurdyukov has received several honorary awards, including the Presidential Badge of Distinction of Lithuania for his contributions to transatlantic relations (2002), the Honorary Certificate of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for preserving the ethnic identity of Russians in Lithuania (2009), and the Letter of Appreciation from the Vilnius City Municipality (2009). In 2015, he was awarded the prize "For Encouraging Intercultural Dialogue." In 2016, he was honored with the Order of Merit for Lithuania.
Raymondas Polisas's book "The Fountain of Personalities" features an essay on Oleg Kurdyukov, highlighting his significant contributions to Lithuanian politics and culture.
