Childhood and Early Life

Olga Safronova (née Bludova) was born on November 5, 1991, in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. She hails from a family of athletes: her mother Irina was a hurdler, father Evgeny played basketball, and brother Maxim was a high jumper. Despite their athletic background, Olga's family did not pressure her to pursue sports.

At age 8, Olga joined the track and field team to support her friend. Initially, she focused on hurdles before transitioning to sprints. After winning her first junior competition, Olga decided to dedicate herself to track and field.

National and International Success

In 2003, Olga became a member of the Kazakhstan national team. She made her international debut at the 2007 Junior World Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The experience humbled her, as she realized the need for more rigorous training to compete at the global level.

Olga holds a higher education degree from the Karaganda University named after Academician E. A. Buketov. She plans to pursue culinary studies after retiring from professional athletics.

Olympic Journey

Olga's Olympic debut came in 2012 in London. She advanced to the semifinals in the 100-meter event, finishing 24th overall. Despite her performance, she criticized the lack of high-level competition experience and training conditions for Kazakhstani athletes.

After a disappointing finish at the Universiade in Kazakhstan, Olga had a breakthrough in 2014. She won gold in the 200 meters and silver in the relay at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, and claimed bronze in the 100 meters. Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.

However, her success at the Asian Games was overshadowed by a disappointing performance at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, where she failed to qualify for the semifinals. Olga attributed her struggles to psychological issues.

In 2017, Olga rebounded with a strong performance at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneshwar, India, winning three medals of different denominations. However, her progress was hindered by injuries, forcing her to resume training only in May 2018.

Personal Life

Since 2017, Olga Safronova has been in a relationship with fellow Kazakhstani sprinter Andrey Sokolov. She was previously married to long jumper Konstantin Safronov, from whom she took her current surname.

Olga is active on Instagram, where she shares pictures of her training and preparations for international competitions. She has a sweet tooth and enjoys baking cakes. Maintaining her strict training regimen is challenging for Olga, but her determination keeps her going.

Hobbies and Interests

In her free time, Olga enjoys traveling, shopping, and visiting restaurants in different countries. She is an avid reader, particularly fond of Cecilia Ahern's novel "P. S. I Love You." Olga speaks three languages: Russian, English, and Kazakh at a school-level proficiency.

Current Status

Olga Safronova and boxer Aslanbek Shymbergenov were honored with the duty of carrying the Kazakhstani flag at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. In preparation for the Games, she won the 200-meter race at the Gennady Arzumanov Memorial in Tashkent. Olga competed in her signature event, the 200-meter sprint, at the Olympics.
