Biography of Osnovnoy Instinkt

Osnovnoy Instinkt was a rock band that originated during a hiking trip to Mount Chater-Dag. The group was formed by students from two universities in Simferopol and played energetic student rock with humorous lyrics. The original lineup consisted of Vlad Gavnis (formerly of "Sushat Olovo"), Sergey "Bobyl" Bobylev (formerly of "Vinny Great"), Ivan Bubnov, and Vadim K. The band rehearsed at the "Novy Den" studio and even recorded one song there.
In the summer of 2003, the band faced the brink of a breakup due to problems with the permanent lineup. The bass guitarist left, and the drummer went to England to work. However, the band managed to prolong its existence briefly by inviting a rhythm section consisting of Dym on bass and Kolya on drums (formerly of "Sushat Olovo").
After their fifth performance in January 2004, the band permanently disbanded due to sheer boredom. Nevertheless, Vlad, Ivan, and Bobyl prepared for the release of the "posthumous" album "Istoriya Odnogo Goroda" ("The Story of One City") by Osnovnoy Instinkt, which was recorded at home and set to be released in early 2005.

Stage 1 - Code Name "V.Noch" (September 2001 - March 2002)

The band's journey began during a hiking trip to Mount Chater-Dag in July 2001. The first and second rehearsals took place at "Rokada" in their original lineup: Vlad Gavnis on drums and vocals, Vadim K. on guitar, and Lyoha Dok on bass. After the fourth rehearsal, the band temporarily ceased to exist due to the lack of prospects for the lineup. The search was on for a guitarist or drummer.
In March 2002, the band had its only rehearsal with Vlad Gavnis on guitar and vocals, Ivan Bubnov on vocals and guitar, Vadim K. on bass, and Evgeny Segan on drums. Once again, the band temporarily ceased to exist due to the lack of prospects for the lineup and the search for a drummer. From April 13, 2002, rehearsals took place at Music School No. 2 with Vlad Gavnis on guitar and vocals, Ivan Bubnov on vocals and guitar, Vadim K. on bass, and Sergey "Bobyl" Bobylev (formerly of "Vinny Great") on drums. At this point, the band still didn't have a name.

Temporary Break and Rehearsals (August 2002 - October 2002)

The band temporarily ceased to exist in August 2002, citing summer vacation as the official reason and the lack of prospects for the lineup and poor sound quality at Gorodetsky's place as the unofficial reason. Rehearsals resumed in October 2002 at the recently opened "Novy Den" studio under the temporary name "NNN." A few days before their first performance, the band was given the name "Osnovnoy Instinkt" (needed a name for the poster).

First Performances and Recording (November 2002 - April 2003)

The band's first performance took place on November 23, 2002, at the "Rock-Kvartal III" festival in Balaklava. Their second performance occurred on January 17, 2003, at the newly opened rehearsal space of "Novy Den" on the studio's birthday. During this time, the band found a personal videographer named Konstantin, who filmed one of their rehearsals and their third concert on April 12, 2003, at "Dvu Kh Kapitanakh." In May-June 2003, they recorded the song "Pervokursnitsa" at "Novy Den" studio, with Dima Vinogradov playing the bass guitar. The band planned to shoot a music video for the song but never got around to it.

Lineup Changes and Creative Crisis (August 2003 - January 2004)

In August 2003, Bobyl left for England, and Kolya (formerly of "Sushat Olovo") became the session drummer. There was growing mutual antipathy between Kolya and Kostya "Khan" Kirhan (formerly of "Oni"), who was invited to play bass guitar. Khan frequently skipped rehearsals, and eventually disappeared completely. Kolya then suggested inviting Dym (formerly of "Sushat Olovo") to play bass guitar. However, the band temporarily ceased to exist again due to the absence of a lineup and a creative crisis.
During this time, they reworked "Pervokursnitsa" with improved vocals. The final version of the hit song was released in early October, but the music video was never made, despite plans to rent a venue at the Palace of Pioneers. In September 2003, they started working on the album "Istoriya Odnogo Goroda" on their own label, "NNN records," and in October, they worked on the single "Samolyot," which featured Kostya Khan. They released a concert music video for the song "V Zashchitu Medvedey," directed by Dym.

Final Performances and Disbandment (November 2003 - January 2004)

The band decided to resume rehearsals to participate in the fourth annual "Rock-Kvartal" festival. After three rehearsals at "Novy Den," the band, consisting of Vlad Gavnis, Ivan Bubnov, Dym, and Kolya, triumphantly performed in Balaklava on November 29, 2003, playing three old songs and a cover version of Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the Universe." After this concert, Osnovnoy Instinkt was supposed to disband, but another festival was on the horizon, so they decided to postpone the breakup. Thus, their final performance took place on January 18, 2004, at the Green Theater on "Novy Den's" birthday. They performed one old Osnovnoy Instinkt song, one "Sushat Olovo" song, and "Symptom of the Universe."
From January 19, 2004, Osnovnoy Instinkt permanently ceased its rehearsal and concert activities. The official reason was the low quality of their repertoire and general boredom, and the unofficial reason was the same plus the lack of prospects for the lineup. However, the band continued to work on their album and single. Bobyl returned from England and joined the recording process. The estimated release dates were set for New Year's.
