Paolo Lorenzi was born on December 15, 1981, in Rome. He came from a family of a surgeon and a housewife. His younger brother followed in their father's footsteps and became a doctor, while Paolo pursued a career in sports. He started playing tennis at the age of seven. Initially, he went to the tennis section with his younger brother, but the latter eventually stopped playing.
