Early Life and Career
Park Sang-young, a right-handed South Korean fencer, was a two-time Asian team champion and the 2016 Olympic individual sabre champion. He was crowned the junior world champion in Moscow in 2012.
Breakthrough Season
In the 2013–14 season, Park made his transition to the senior category. During this season, he emerged as a force to reckon with, winning the Doha Grand Prix and the Bern Grand Prix in 2014. He also contributed to South Korea's team gold medals at the 2014 Asian Fencing Championships in Suwon and the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. Park's redemption came at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He dominated the sabre individual competition, defeating Romania's Tiberiu Dolniceanu in the final to become South Korea's first male sabre fencer to win Olympic gold.
