Biography of Paul Denyer
Paul Denyer is an Australian serial killer currently serving three consecutive life sentences with a non-parole period of 30 years at Barwon Prison for the murders of Elizabeth Stevens, Debbie Fream, and Natalie Russell. Born in Frankston, Victoria, Denyer earned the nickname "Frankston Killer" due to committing these murders in Frankston in 1993.
Murders
Denyer targeted his victims over a span of seven weeks. He would stalk them before carrying out his heinous crimes. During one interrogation, Denyer revealed to the police that his motivation for these acts was his hatred for women in general.
His first victim was 18-year-old Elizabeth Stevens, whom he ambushed on her way home from a bus stop. Denyer dragged her to Lloyd Park nearby and brutally murdered her by slashing her throat and mutilating her chest in a distinctive cross-shaped pattern.
A month later, Denyer kidnapped Debbie Fream in the early morning. Fream had carelessly left her car unlocked at a parking lot near a store. Denyer hid in the backseat and attacked her on her way home. He took Fream to a secluded area where he repeatedly slit her throat. Fream had a 12-day-old baby at home, as she had gone to the store to buy milk.
Denyer's third victim, Rosza Toth, was also attacked on the same day as Fream. However, Toth managed to escape from his clutches and contact the police while in a bathroom.
Denyer's final victim was 17-year-old Natalie Russell, whom he attacked as she was returning home from school. Russell took a shortcut through a bike path in a park when Denyer dragged her to a desolate location through a hole in a wire fence. Despite her resistance, Denyer viciously stabbed her in the neck and head. Medical experts later determined that Denyer had inflicted more brutality upon Russell compared to his other victims.
Additional Suspected Murders
Some sources within the police and press attributed two more murders to Denyer. Sarah MacDiarmid disappeared in 1990, and her body was never found. The decomposed body of Michelle Brown, another suspected victim, was discovered, but the circumstances of her death could not be determined due to advanced decomposition. Denyer vehemently denied any involvement in MacDiarmid's disappearance.
Incarceration and Obsession
While in prison, Denyer developed a new level of obsession by cross-dressing. He repeatedly requested to purchase women's cosmetics, but his requests were denied by prison officials. He also inquired about the possibility of undergoing gender reassignment surgery, which was also denied by medical professionals.
Denyer's crimes were featured in the pilot episode of the Australian crime drama "Forensic Investigators" on the Seven Network in 2004.
