Education and Military Service
Petro Bubnenko earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the Kharkiv Engineering and Economics Institute in 1976. He served in the Soviet Army's Southern Group of Forces from 1976-1977.
Early Career and Doctoral Studies
After completing his military service, Bubnenko worked at the Ukrainian Research and Design Institute of Chemical Engineering from 1977-1988, rising through the ranks from engineer-economist to head of the laboratory. He completed his doctorate in economics in 1983, defending a dissertation on "Improving the Stimulation of the Creation and Production of New Technology."
Academic Leadership and Research Interests
From 1988-2000, Bubnenko held various leadership positions at the North-Eastern Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education (NASU and MES) of Ukraine, including executive director. In 2004, he earned his Doctor of Science degree with a dissertation on "Fundamentals of Formation and Implementation of Scientific and Technical Policy (Regional Aspect)." Since 2001, he has served as director of the North-Eastern Scientific Center.
Bubnenko's research focuses on regional economic institutional change, scientific and technological (S&T) and innovation policy, and the role of NASU research centers in regional innovation. His interests include:
