Peggy Cass was born on May 21, 1924, in Boston, Massachusetts. Her passion for acting ignited during her high school years as a member of the drama club.
Broadway Debut and Breakthrough
After graduating in the early 1940s, Cass struggled to secure acting work until landing a role in a touring production of "Born Yesterday." In 1949, she made her Broadway debut. Her breakout role came in 1957 when she portrayed Agnes Gooch in "Auntie Mame," earning her a Tony Award. The subsequent film adaptation earned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
Transition to Television and "Today Show"
As the 1960s unfolded, Cass primarily focused on television work, appearing in shows such as "The Doctors," "The Love Boat," and "Vega$." She gained prominence as a host of the popular talk show "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in the 1970s.
Personal Life and Legacy
In 1979, Cass married Eugene Feeney, with whom she spent the rest of her life. She passed away from heart failure at the age of 74 on March 8, 1999, in New York City. Peggy Cass left an enduring legacy as a talented actress and TV personality.
