Early Education and Career

Born in 1853, Heacox received his early musical training in his hometown. From 1868 to 1873, he served as an organist at local churches. Seeking further musical knowledge, he traveled to Stuttgart, Germany, to study at the Stuttgart Conservatory.

Teaching and Legacy

Upon his return to the United States, Heacox taught at the New England Conservatory from 1905 onwards. In 1912, he joined the Institute of Musical Art, which later became the Juilliard School, where he taught until his death in 1929. His esteemed students included renowned composers Bernard Rogers and Howard Hanson.
