In 1964, Revson joined Reg Parnell's Formula One team. However, his performances were disappointing, and he earned a reputation as a wealthy American playboy. This setback almost destroyed Revson's European dream, prompting him to return to American motorsport.

Revson teamed up with Skip Scott and drove a Ford GT40 in the Can-Am and Trans-Am series for three seasons (1966-1968), following victories in Seattle and Las Vegas. He then continued to compete in single-seater racing series. In 1969, at the Indianapolis 500, Revson finished fifth. The following year, he finished second in Sebring alongside actor Steve McQueen, driving a Porsche 908, and competed in the Can-Am series in a Lola.

In 1971, Revson joined the McLaren team and raced for them in several events before being invited to drive for Tyrrell at the US Grand Prix. The following year, he had a full season with McLaren in both Can-Am and Formula One. Revson's teammate was veteran driver Denny Hulme, and both had successful performances. Hulme finished third, while Revson finished fifth.

In 1973, Revson continued to compete in Formula One for McLaren. Once again, he finished fifth in the championship, but this time, he secured two victories. However, conflicts within the team led to Revson leaving McLaren and joining Shadow.

In 1974, Revson participated in the South American rounds of the Formula One championship. Unfortunately, he was unable to start the South African Grand Prix, as he tragically lost his life in a crash during testing.
