In 1994, Stein premiered his production of "The Oresteia" by Aeschylus in Moscow. The eight-hour play featured renowned Russian actors such as Ekaterina Vasilieva, Lyudmila Chursina, Evgeny Mironov, Tatiana Dogileva, Igor Kostolevsky, Elena Mayorova, and Vyacheslav Razbegayev.

In 1998, Stein directed a production of "Hamlet" with Evgeny Mironov in the role of Prince Hamlet. Other actors in the play included Alexander Feklistov as Claudius, Irina Kupchenko as Gertrude, Mikhail Filippov as Polonius, and Vyacheslav Razbegayev as Fortinbras.
