Early Life and Education

On February 2, 1896, in Tbilisi, Georgia, a revolutionary leader and esteemed Soviet statesman was born. He pursued higher education at the University of Tbilisi, enrolling in the Faculty of Law.

Revolutionary Activism

In 1916, he became a member of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP). During the tumultuous events of 1917, he fought on the Caucasian Front.

Military Service and Honors

In 1920, he commanded units of the Red Army during the Russian Civil War, earning the distinguished Order of the Red Banner for his valor.

Party Leadership and Administrative Roles

After the war, in 1921, he was appointed as the responsible secretary of the Organizational Bureau of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) in Abkhazia and deputy chairman of the GPU under the Soviet of People's Commissars of the Georgian SSR.

Rise in Power and Bureaucratic responsibilities

From 1930 onwards, he served as head of the agitation and propaganda department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Georgia (Bolsheviks). In October 1932, he ascended to the position of second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Georgia (Bolsheviks) and was elected to the Bureau of the Transcaucasian Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). He also held the post of deputy chairman of the Central Executive Committee of Georgia.

Downfall and Repression

His political ascent was short-lived. On December 30, 1934, he was removed from his positions and arrested. The infamous purges of the Stalin era claimed him as a victim on May 31, 1937, when he was executed.

Legacy and Rehabilitation

Posthumously, his reputation was restored, and he was formally rehabilitated. His legacy endures as a testament to the complex and often tragic history of the Soviet Union.
