Early Life and Career
Born on June 1, 1901, the acclaimed actor began his stage career in 1920 at the Trade Union Theater in Samara.
Moscow and Theatrical Beginnings
In 1925, he became a member of the "Blue Blouse" theatrical movement in Moscow while simultaneously pursuing studies at the State Institute of Theatrical Arts (GITIS).
MKhAT and Realistic Theater
Upon graduating from GITIS in 1928, he was accepted into the Moscow Art Theater (MKhAT). In 1929, he joined the Realistic Theater, established from the Fourth Studio of MKhAT. His portrayal of Kostya-Captain in Nikolai Pogodin's "Aristocrats" remains one of his most celebrated performances.
Other Notable Theater Engagements
Between 1937 and 1941, he was a member of the Chamber Theater. From 1941 to 1946, he worked at the Moscow Drama Theater under the direction of Nikolai Gorchakov.
Moscow Mayakovsky Theater
He became an actor at the Moscow Mayakovsky Theater in 1949.Passing and Legacy
The distinguished actor passed away in 1978 and is laid to rest at the Vagankovo Cemetery.
