Philippe Echaroux: From Social Worker to Master Photographer
Born in Marseille in 1983, Philippe Echaroux is a French photographer who initially pursued social work in his hometown. However, his passion for photography became undeniable in the summer of 2008, leading him to receive the prestigious Dior International Photography Award the following year.
Celebrity Portraits and Marketing Collaborations
Echaroux has gained recognition for his captivating celebrity portraits from around the world. His swift "shot in under a minute" approach has established him as a young master of portraiture. He has collaborated with industry giants such as Samsung, Adidas, and FIAT for various marketing campaigns.
Street Art 2.0: Innovative Light Projections
Beyond photography, Echaroux has pioneered the innovative "Street Art 2.0" project. This concept involves using light projections and computer technology as an alternative to traditional spray paint and urban surfaces. The ephemeral nature of these artworks leaves no permanent trace in the physical environment. Street Art 2.0 has earned Echaroux a prominent place in the street art scene, with invitations to showcase his work internationally.
Protecting Amazon Rainforests
In Street Art 2.0, Echaroux substitutes light and technology for spray paint, and the Amazon rainforest becomes his canvas. His unique creations aim to raise awareness about the equivalence of deforestation to the loss of human life.
Surui Faces Lighting Up the Rainforests
Echaroux traveled to the Amazon rainforest and photographed the faces of the Surui people, a Brazilian coffee-growing tribe residing in ten villages along the border of Mato Grosso and Rondônia. Using these images, he created mesmerizing light installations in the nocturnal forest, giving the Amazonian jungles a human face.
Returning Light to the World
"As a photographer, you chase after light every day," Echaroux reflects. "It's important for me to find a way to give light back. And to give it back in a way that you can almost touch it." Through his unique street art and photography, Philippe Echaroux continues to bring light and inspiration to the world.
