Marradёry and the Origins of Port(812)
The Hardcore Beginnings: Marradёry (Fall 1992)In the autumn of 1992, a hardcore band called Marradёry was formed. The initial lineup consisted of several members, but the only one to remain throughout the band's history was Ilya, the group's songwriter and vocalist.
A Pivotal Concert and a New Direction (June 1993)
Marradёry's first noteworthy concert took place in June 1993. With Ilya leading the charge, the band played with passion and energy. Over time, the group solidified its lineup and released a total of five albums. They also participated in various compilation albums and toured extensively throughout Russia and former Soviet Union countries.
The Emergence of M.R.D. & PORTS (Spring 1999)
Around spring 1999, Ilya began writing songs that deviated from Marradёry's hardcore sound. These romantic compositions inspired him to create M.R.D. & PORTS as a separate entity. The songs lacked the aggression of Marradёry, leading to their designation as distinct creations on the album "SKOBY."
The Creation of Port(812) (Spring 2000)
As the number of romantic-themed songs grew, the band recognized the need for a new outlet. They decided to perform these songs live but realized that the Marradёry label wouldn't be appropriate. After contemplation, they settled on the name PORT, adding 812 to represent Saint Petersburg's telephone code. The name resonated with their love for their hometown, while also evoking associations with a well-known American band.
Album Releases and Evolution of Port(812)
Port(812)'s debut album, simply titled "Port(812)," featured 14 tracks and a music video for the song "Kto-to eshe". In 2003, the band began recording their second album, "YAUPP" (short for "I Am Killing Pop-Punk"). The album was released in January 2004 and included 13 tracks. One of the songs, "V ee glazakh," was previously featured on Marradёry's "SKOBY" album. Additionally, they collaborated with Lesha Nikonov of PTVP on the track "Kogo ona zhdët."
