A Homeless Indian Woman's Miraculous Rescue from Infestation and Attack

Begging for Help
Priti Devi, a homeless woman from northwest India, was found in a desperate state, crying out in the middle of a road. Her head was teeming with maggots, and she had been the victim of a violent attack.

Angels of Mercy
Volunteers from the charity organization 'Apna Ghar' responded to Devi's cries and became her "angels," as she later called them. They saved her from near-certain death and provided her with much-needed care.

Physical and Emotional Wounds
Devi, now 30 years old, claims she sustained severe head injuries during the attack, which became infested with maggots. The organization helped her heal her wounds and address the underlying trauma she had endured.

Organizational Support
Apna Ghar, which also conducts outreach programs among migrant communities to combat gender-based violence, provided Devi with shelter and care in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, for five months while she recovered from her injuries.

Returning to Hope
"Nobody would have done for a stranger what Apna Ghar and its volunteers did for me," Devi said. "Their kindness has restored my faith in humanity... I was slowly dying on the side of the road."

Resilience and a New Home
After her ordeal, Devi was forced to flee her home in Bihar due to fears for her safety. She had been wandering the streets of Rajasthan until she was rescued. With the help of Apna Ghar volunteers, she arranged to return home and start a new life.
Apna Ghar's Mission
Apna Ghar provides assistance to "destitute and needy" individuals who have experienced challenging times in their lives. They provide access to healthcare, food, and clean clothing to those in need.
A New Beginning
"I plan to return home and start my life anew," Devi said, determined to rebuild her life in her hometown.
