Biography of Priyanka Chopra
Early Life and EducationPriyanka Chopra was born on July 8, 1982, in Jamshedpur, India, into a family of doctors. Her parents, Ashok and Madhu Chopra, were both military physicians, which led to frequent relocations from Ladakh to Kerala, and then to Mumbai and Jamshedpur. She has a younger brother who is eight years her junior. During her childhood, she suffered from asthma. She received her education first at a girls' school in Lucknow, and then in Bareilly at the Maria Goretti College. She completed her senior year of high school in Boston, USA.
Early Career
Priyanka's initial aspirations were to become a software engineer or a psychologist. She had a passion for dance, music, and writing stories. However, her desire to become an actress ignited when someone suggested she participate in a beauty pageant. In 2000, she won the title of Miss India and went on to become Miss World at the age of 18. That same year, another Indian representative, Lara Dutta, won the title of Miss Universe. Priyanka made her acting debut in a Tamil film called "Thamizhan" in 2002, and her Hindi film debut in "Andaaz" in 2003.
Rise to Fame
Over a span of seven years, Priyanka became the fifth Indian to hold the Miss World title. In 2002, she began her career in Bollywood and quickly established herself as a leading actress. She has no plans to get married in the next 10 years. Priyanka once said, "If I like the script, I'm ready to act in any film in any language." She has also been offered roles in English-language films in Hollywood.
Philanthropy and Achievements
Apart from her successful acting career, Priyanka is involved in various charitable endeavors in both India and the USA. She is a goodwill ambassador for the CAF charity foundation and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and actively participates in their programs to combat illiteracy. Priyanka is also the only Indian representative to have been honored with the opportunity to sing in the National Opus Honor Choir in the USA. She sponsors a program for polio prevention in children.
