Early Life and Sporting Career
Born in Australia, Baker was a multi-talented athlete. He excelled in swimming, competing in and winning competitions. His prowess also extended to water polo for a Sydney-based club and rugby.
Boxing Triumph and Olympic Glory
Boxer was Baker's true calling. The New South Wales native had multiple boxing championships under his belt. His talent culminated in his participation in the 1908 Summer Olympics held in London. Competing in the lightweight division, Baker secured the silver medal, adding to his sporting achievements.
Baker's Olympic venture extended beyond boxing. He competed in the 4x200m freestyle relay for the Australian team, finishing fourth. His skills also shone in diving, where he advanced past the quarterfinals in the 3-meter springboard event.
