Reggie Love: A Personal Aide and Accomplished Athlete

Early Life and Education

Reginald Love was born on April 29, 1981, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended Providence Day School and graduated from Duke University with a degree in political science and public policy.

Athletic Career

Love was a star forward on Duke's Blue Devils basketball team, winning an NCAA national championship in 2001. He also played as a wide receiver on the university's football team on a football scholarship.

Political Beginnings

After graduating from college, Love unsuccessfully tried out for several National Football League (NFL) teams. In 2006, he interned on Capitol Hill, where he was hired by Barack Obama's then-Communications Director, Robert Gibbs, to work in Obama's Senate office.

Personal Aide to the President

The following year, Love became Obama's personal aide, serving in that role throughout the presidential campaign. They played basketball daily during the primaries and continued the tradition in the subsequent years, always being on the same team.

Personal Assistant

As the president's personal assistant, Love anticipated Obama's every need. He performed a wide range of duties, leading Obama to nickname him "iReggie," a nod to Apple's popular products.

Recognition

Love was featured in ESPN's "E:60" documentary series as part of the Obama campaign team. In January 2009, ABC News named him "Person of the Week."
