Biography of Reinhold Voll

Reinhold Voll (R. Voll, 1909 - 1988) was born on February 17, 1909, in Berlin. Influenced by the tragic death of his father, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to medicine and in 1930, Voll entered the medical faculty of Tubingen University. After completing his studies, in 1935, he defended his dissertation at the Institute of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Voll continued his medical career at the Institute of Sports Medicine at the University of Hamburg.

Development of Electroacupuncture Diagnosis

Starting in 1953, together with engineer F. Werner, R. Voll embarked on the development of new methods of electroacupuncture diagnosis and therapy, which he successfully applied in clinical practice. Inspired by numerous successes, in 1956, Voll, along with his colleagues, founded the Society of Electroacupuncture, which in 1961 transformed into the International Society of Electroacupuncture, named in his honor.

During this period, R. Voll scientifically substantiated electroacupuncture as a new diagnostic and therapeutic method. He developed a systematic network of relationships between biologically active points and the internal organs and tissue systems of the human body. He also devised a methodology for selecting various pharmacological and non-pharmacological agents. In 1966, Voll was awarded the Gold Medal by Pope Paul YI for his outstanding contributions to suffering humanity and the development of electroacupuncture diagnosis and therapy. Additionally, in 1974, he received the prestigious Gufaland Medal from the FRG.

Contributions and Legacy

In 1972, R. Voll became the honorary president of the International Society of Electroacupuncture, which he established, and continued his work in the Central Union of Physicians and the German Medical Acupuncture Society. In 1988, Reinhold Voll passed away. Throughout his practical career, Voll published over 500 scientific works, released atlases, and educational materials on various topics related to electroacupuncture diagnosis and therapy.
