The Master of Light and Music
Richard Holdman, the renowned artist behind dazzling light and music installations, has graced Moscow's Krasnaya Presnya Park with his enchanting "Christmas Light" composition. For the first time in Russia, Holdman's artistry will illuminate over 150,000 lights, captivating visitors with a symphony of light and sound.
Illuminating the Festive Season
Holdman's installations are designed to appeal to all ages. "My work is not just for children or adults; it's for everyone," he says. "Just like fireworks bring joy to everyone except dogs, Christmas lights ignite the spirit of wonder in all of us." The park will transform into a festive wonderland, perfect for family gatherings and romantic encounters.
Trees and Structures Adorned
The composition seamlessly integrates nature and man-made elements. "We utilize both trees and custom structures to ensure there's plenty of illumination," explains Holdman. "We also erect and decorate Christmas trees, especially around the ice rink." To enhance the sensory experience, interactive sculptures of musicians playing accordions, guitars, and other instruments will accompany the light and music show.
A Symphony of Light and Sound
The park will feature a captivating Christmas installation depicting the birth of Jesus. Additionally, visitors can marvel at ice sculptures, giant felt boots, and a monumental ice slide. "It's a complete festival, and I'm honored to be a part of it," says Holdman. The installation boasts over 150,000 LED lights in a vibrant palette of white, blue, green, and festive hues. "We had to reconfigure the equipment to adapt to Russia's 220-volt power system," adds Holdman.
The "Picasso of Light"
Holdman embraces the comparison to Pablo Picasso with humility. "It's a great honor to be considered an artist akin to Picasso," he says. "My work may not resemble his masterpieces, but I appreciate the recognition of its artistic value."
The Spirit of Christmas
Holdman's focus on Christmas-themed installations stems from his personal attachment to the season. "I didn't appreciate the Christmas lights my father put up when I was a kid," he admits. "But when I had my own family and home, I discovered their magic. They evoke a nostalgic sense of childhood."
From Home to City
Holdman's journey from decorating his own home to illuminating entire parks began in 2006. After synchronizing his lights to music, his neighborhood display attracted an overwhelming number of spectators. "The neighbors loved it, but the traffic jams became unbearable," he recalls. "We had to hire traffic directors." Today, Holdman's installations adorn shopping malls, streets, and restaurants worldwide, raising funds for children's hospitals.
A Global Celebration
Across Argentina, Canada, Korea, the United States, and now Russia, Holdman's compositions ignite the spirit of Christmas. "I'll soon travel to each location to ensure everything is working smoothly," he says.
The Meaning of the Season
For Holdman, Christmas holds a special place in his heart. "In the U.S., the Christmas season starts on December 1st," he explains. "That's why I'm able to work in Moscow now; my installations in the States are already up and running."
Embracing Inclusivity
Holdman respects the diversity of beliefs surrounding the holiday season. "I don't take offense when people use different phrases like 'Happy Holidays' or 'Season's Greetings'," he says. "To me, it's about family and friends, regardless of your faith."
Braving the Russian Winter
Despite the frigid temperatures in Moscow, Holdman is confident that the warmth of the lights and music will captivate audiences. "The people of Russia are resilient and know how to dress for the cold," he says. "Our illumination and the spirit of Christmas will surely warm their hearts."
