Biography of Richard Norris

London producer, sound engineer, and musician Richard Norris is best known as a member of 'The Grid'. He began his musical career as a teenager, starting with the punk collective 'Innocent Vicars', which released two singles in 1980. Norris later became the manager of the label 'Bam Caruso' and also began writing for the popular British music publication 'NME' in 1987.

In the same year, Norris released the album 'Jack The Tab' with the help of Genesis P. Orridge. Shortly after, he signed 'The Grid' with 'Warner Bros. Records/East West Records'. From 1990 to 1995, the group released 10 singles that entered the UK Singles Chart, including the notable tracks 'Floatation', 'Crystal Clear', 'Texas Cowboys', 'Rollercoaster', and the highly popular 'Swamp Thing'.

Alongside his work with 'The Grid', Norris also engaged in remixing and DJing alongside Erol Alkan under the pseudonym 'Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve'. In 2005, 'Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve' released the EP 'Birth', followed by the album 'Spring' in the summer of 2006. Their third mini-album, 'George', was released in 2007, and later that year, the EP 'West' became available. They collaborated with artists such as 'The Chemical Brothers', Tracey Thorn, 'Badly Drawn Boy', 'Midlake', and 'Goldfrapp'.

Norris had a successful creative partnership with Joe Strummer. Together, they worked on the soundtrack for the film 'Grosse Pointe Blank', and Norris also helped create the debut album 'Rock Art and the X-Ray Style' for Strummer's band, 'The Mescaleros'.

His most recent project, 'The Time and Space Machine', operates under 'Tirk Records'. After signing a contract in 2009, the group released the singles 'Children Of The Sun' and 'You Are The One' followed by their debut album 'Set Phazer To Stun'. Their second album, 'Taste The Lazer', is scheduled for release in 2012, preceded by the single 'Pill Party In India'. In collaboration with designer Luke Insect and the label 'Stussy', the 'Time and Space Machine' also released a series of branded t-shirts.

Norris continues to create remixes, recently releasing a series for the works of Bryan Ferry, 'Tame Impala', and DJ Harvey.
