Biography of Richard Turner

Richard Turner is a renowned card magician and cheat, considered one of the most distinguished card manipulators in the world. Surprisingly, all of his incredible tricks are performed while being blind. In fact, his blindness makes him exceptional - he executes his tricks so flawlessly that they are impossible to detect and solve. He laughs and claims he cannot see them himself because, well, he is blind.

Early Life

Richard Turner was born in 1954 in San Diego, California. At the age of 7, he fell in love with cards and card tricks. Unfortunately, at the age of 9, after a severe case of scarlet fever, Richard began to lose his eyesight. By the time he was 13, he could still see, but his vision gradually deteriorated, and soon he was declared blind. Interestingly, Turner is able to see shadows and faint outlines of objects even today. However, he lives as a blind person, relying on his other senses for everyday navigation.

Richard attended a special school for the visually impaired in Santee, California. It is known that he refused to learn Braille and never mastered it. His academic progress was uneven, as he was once expelled from the school but was reinstated a couple of months later. Inspired by his brother's interest in karate, Richard also began practicing martial arts. In 1972, he briefly pursued a career as a theater actor. Later, he worked as a trick consultant on television shows and even performed some thrilling acts, such as tightrope walking and swinging on a trapeze. Remarkably, Richard accomplished all of this while being completely blind.

Passion for Cards

However, Richard's true passion in life has always been cards. He continued to train tirelessly, sometimes spending hours each day perfecting his tricks. His skills grew, and eventually, Richard was ready to showcase them to the world. By the late 1980s, Turner was already considered the best card magician or cheat in the world. Even the renowned illusionist Dai Vernon claimed to have never seen such skilled card manipulators before. It remains a mystery how a blind man like Richard Turner managed to achieve such mastery. Interestingly, Richard himself believes that his lack of sight is the reason behind his success. He believes that the ability to see objects and their actions makes people "lazy" and neglect their other senses. Richard does not consider himself a card cheat; he prefers to be called a "card mechanic" since, to him, a mechanic is someone who can fully control the game. Richard indeed has complete control over the deck, as anyone who has witnessed him at the card table can attest.

Recognition and Personal Life

Richard Turner is frequently invited to various events, where renowned magicians and illusionists from around the world applaud his skills. In terms of his personal life, it is known that he has been married to Kim Turner for a long time, and they have a son named Asa Spades Turner. Interestingly, his son's name strongly resembles the "Ace of Spades Turner," which is said to be named after the luckiest card in a deck.

In general, Richard is said to be obsessed with cards, and his mastery continues to grow every day. He is a regular guest on many television shows, where he entertains hosts and viewers with his intricate tricks that are impossible to guess or expose. While the audience marvels at his talents, Richard laughs along - after all, he cannot see them either.
