Early Career

John Cote, a professional Canadian hockey player, began his professional career in 2002 as an undrafted prospect. Impressing coaches at the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp, he secured a one-year contract. He played in the CHL for the Memphis RiverKings and the AHL for the St. John's Maple Leafs during the 2002-2003 season.

Syracuse Crunch and Columbus Blue Jackets

In 2003, Cote signed a two-way contract with the Syracuse Crunch. He attended the Columbus Blue Jackets training camp in the fall of that year but was released and returned to the Crunch. A pre-season fight resulted in an eye injury, which forced him to sign with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL.

Philadelphia Phantoms and Flyers

Cote was recalled to the RiverKings before the 2004-2005 season, but the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms offered him a tryout contract, which he extended twice during the season. As an enforcer, he helped the Phantoms win the Calder Cup. Immediately after the season, he signed a one-year contract with the Phantoms.

Cote attended two Philadelphia Flyers training camps in 2005 and 2006, eventually signing a two-way contract with the team in 2006. Initially playing for the Phantoms, he suffered an ankle injury and missed two months. On March 24, 2007, Cote made his NHL debut against the New York Islanders. He scored his first and only NHL goal on February 17, 2008, against the Montreal Canadiens.

Retirement and Coaching

On August 9, 2010, Cote announced his retirement. He now works as an assistant coach for the Adirondack Phantoms.
