Early Life

Rosita Dolores Alverío was born on December 11, 1931, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She was brought to New York City as a young child and pursued an education and career in theater.

Broadway Debut

In 1944, Rita Moreno made her Broadway debut. Her captivating presence and talent caught the attention of Hollywood producers. After several successful Broadway performances, Moreno was cast in film roles, including "Singin' in the Rain" and "The New Orleans Kid."

Hollywood Success

In 1961, Moreno's portrayal of Anita in "West Side Story" earned her widespread recognition and the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. She continued to star in films throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including "Marlowe," "The Flesh," "The Ritz," "The Four Seasons," and "Voodoo Passion."

Family Life and Return to Acting

In 1965, Moreno married Leonard Gordon and welcomed a daughter, Fernanda. After taking time off to focus on her family, she returned to acting in the 1970s and 1980s, appearing in films such as "Angus," "The Flesh," and "Marlowe."

Later Career

In recent years, Moreno has had roles in the television series "Cane" and "Ugly Betty." Her most recent film project is "4Chosen," scheduled for release in 2010.
