Rob Cohen - Biography
Rob Cohen is a renowned film director, screenwriter, and producer, specializing in complex and visually stunning films. He was born on March 12, 1949, in Cornwall, New York. Cohen attended Harvard University and, at the age of 24, was appointed as a producer for the newly established film division of the famous record company, "Motown Records".
Early Career
Some of Cohen's early producer credits include the melodrama "Mahogany" (1975) starring American soul music icon Diana Ross and the baseball comedy "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings" (1976). He collaborated with director John Badham to form the production company "Badham-Cohen Productions" and went on to produce Badham's films "Short Circuit" (1990) and "Point Break" (1991).
Directorial Debut and Return to Producing
In 1980, Cohen made his directorial debut with the romantic drama "A Small Circle of Friends" based on Harvard University's campus life. After directing the comedy film "Scandalous" (1984), Cohen took a break from directing for an extended period, focusing primarily on producing. Some notable films he worked on during this time include "The Witches of Eastwick" (1987, directed by George Miller) and "The Running Man" (1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser).
Later Works and Current Endeavors
Cohen returned to directing in 1993 with the film "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story," a biographical drama about the famous actor and martial arts expert. Three years later, he released two films simultaneously: the fantasy adventure "Dragonheart" and the action thriller "Daylight" starring Sylvester Stallone. He followed these with the critically acclaimed television film "The Rat Pack" (1998), which was nominated for an Emmy Award, and the psychological thriller "The Skulls" (2000) about a secretive organization controlling American society.
Rob Cohen continues to produce films and television series while also occupying the director's chair. Some of his recent works include the films "The Fast and the Furious" (2001) and "xXx" (2002). He has worked on various projects throughout his career, gaining recognition for his unique storytelling and visually stunning films.
